SEWER COST: A public hearing is being held Monday night for Ankeny residents to get more information on a proposed sewer rate increase | News
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
Ankeny residents will have a chance to weigh in on a proposed sewer rate increase Monday night.
The city is proposing an almost 10-percent increase in the sanitary sewer rate. The increase would cover the cost to keep up with demand and other obligations in the city's utility department.
A six-percent increase to the water rate is also in the process of being approved. City utility manager Jolee Belzung said the water rate adjustment will cause a 75-cent increase per month, and the sanitary sewer rate adjustment will have a $2.24 increase every month. Those numbers are estimated in terms of the average usage for a one-person household.
After the hearing, the council will take the first of three votes on the rate increase. If a new rate is approved, it would go into effect July first.
The hearing is being held at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council chambers.
